WELCOME TO MRS. RACZYKOWSKI'S SECOND GRADE CLASS!!!
Thank you for entrusting your child to me. I am dedicated to making this a busy, productive, and terrific year for all of my students. Here are some suggestions and information for success in second grade.
This year, second grade will be implementing the Saxon Phonics program, which will be discussed more at our Curriculum Night. Spelling will also be taught within Saxon Phonics.
Reading is VERY important, so please have your child read to you each night for at least 15 minutes. The reading can be done from a book of your child's choice. This "extra practice" will strengthen your child's oral and silent reading, comprehension skills, attitude, and self-esteem. Please record the minutes your child reads in his/her student planner in the white box next to your initials. I will tally up the minutes at the end of the week. Remember, there needs to be at least 60 minutes please!!!
Homework includes learning math facts, vocabulary, reading, and spelling. Each night, your child's homework assignment will be written in his/her student planner. Please go through your child's take home folder. If your child brings home a paper that shows he/she had difficulty with an assignment, then it would be quite beneficial if you would review the concept(s) with him/her.
Caring about your child's education is essential to a positive school year. As I feel communication between parents and school is VERY important, my door is always open.
